Caries in dogs, inflammation of pulpitis, periodontitis, treatment

Caries in a dog is the decay of the teeth of an animal. For what reasons does this disease appear is not yet precisely determined.

Predisposing factors for caries in dogs: tooth fracture, tartar, insufficient congenital strength of dental substances such as enamel, cement and dentin. Often the development of caries is observed in dogs that have had plagues with carnivores.

Caries in dogs are divided into complete caries, in which the crown of the tooth is completely destroyed; deep caries - bare pulp; medium and superficial. The onset of caries development can occur from the pulp itself.

Symptoms of caries in dogs:

  • unpleasant smell
  • teeth turn black
  • education in the teeth hollow.
  • In the hollows accumulate leftover food that begins to rot there.
  • The dog has a pronounced violation of the chewing process, saliva flows from the mouth.
  • Fistulas may form in the maxillary sinus, nasal concha, in the lower and upper jaw

If the caries is superficial, then the lesion is treated with a solution of silver nitrate. The processes are deeper, require removal of the affected teeth.

Dental pulpitis is located in the root of the tooth, or rather, in its canal. It consists of lymphatic, blood vessels and nerve plexuses that provide nutrition for a dog's tooth. Inflammation of the pulpitis occurs as a result of its exposure as a result of caries, with a tooth fracture, premature erasure of the dental crown, various inflammatory processes.

Observe chronic and acute pulpitis, purulent and aseptic, granulomatous and gangrenous. It is extremely difficult to diagnose pulpitis in a dog, as there are no direct symptoms. The animal tries not to use the teeth on the affected side. Rumbling a sick tooth makes the dog feel pain.

Gangrenous pulpitis determined by the tooth, which becomes dark brown, and the internal cavity of the tooth is filled with pus. Granulomatous pulpitis is characterized by a chronic course, at which tissue proliferates, which begins to bulge through a dental opening. If a dog has an aseptic pulpitis, then it is necessary to give only soft food, and the tooth neck around the circumference should be lubricated with iodine-glycerin. Teeth affected by pulpitis should be removed.

Periodonton - this is the name of the connective membrane, which connects the jawbone with the root of the tooth. Contusion to the lesion of the periodontal bone injury or fracture, the transition of inflammatory processes from the pulp or gums. The disease is observed on the edge or top, as well as it can capture the root sheath completely. Periodontitis can be chronic and acute, purulent and aseptic.

The diagnosis is also difficult to establish. With the disease note: around the tooth swelling of the gums, pain during palpation, loosening of the tooth itself. Often, the inflammatory process captures bone tissue, thus forming suppurative osteomyelitis with the formation of a fistula.

Treatment of caries in dogs

  • The animal is transferred to soft food, no dry dog food.
  • The oral cavity is regularly washed with disinfectant solutions such as potassium permanganate, furatsilina, boric acid, sodium bicarbonate. The solution must be warm.
  • The gums around the tooth is smeared with iodine-glycerin.
  • If the dog has purulent periodontitis, the tooth is removed.

Chronic periodontitis often accompanies the ossification of the root membrane, such a tooth is difficult to remove, as a jaw fracture may occur.
