Bullmastiff puppies, feeding ration

During this period, the puppy develops very strongly and gradually turns into a "teenager." He is getting older and smarter.

The puppy, of course, still remains a miser and a mess, but it makes significant progress in understanding words, intonation and even the general mood of the owner. Now his joyful jumps over the return of the owner from work can be interrupted by one sharp word.

The puppy becomes very sensitive and touchy. This should be remembered. Punishment should be carried out mainly by voice. Punishment by the newspaper and, especially, by hand - only in the most extreme cases. For example, in cases where the puppy began to eat something from the ground and in response to the prohibitive command "Foo!" he just runs away from the owner and continues to eat some kind of nastiness. That is, when the dog deliberately not only does not fulfill your command, but also does the exact opposite. This behavior must be stopped in the bud.

By the way, keep in mind that at this time the natural stubbornness, which is very characteristic of this breed, is already beginning to manifest itself. Do not be afraid to read these words. Natural stubbornness, when a dog matures, will grow into a natural stubbornness in achieving its goal. I emphasize - in the performance of the task set by the owner. And so, the emphasis on all four paws and the categorical reluctance to walk side by side (but only half a meter behind) is an absolutely typical behavior of a bullmastiff puppy.

Feeding a puppy

At this age should be developed feeding rationgiven that the puppy is growing rapidly and the quantity and composition of the proposed feed should change. Basically increase. Plus, the use of vitamins and minerals, of course, also increases. Your dog, like any other, does not fit every diet, not every dog food, including dry.

Even very well-known companies, such as “Purina”, “Bosh”, “Royal Canine”, “Pedigree Pal”, “Eukanuba”, “Eagle Pack”. As you can see, the list is pretty solid. We can recommend the feed of the last two firms, especially the “Eagle Pack”. And all the known varieties of the product are good - “Growth”, and “Puppy”, and “Adult” and “Lamb and Rice” and “Hy-Ration”, which, of course, should be given in accordance with the age specified in the feeding instructions, and the real needs of the dog's body.

When feeding a dog with dry food (as well as natural food, too), the effect of this food is immediately visible. That's just when feeding with natural food (meat, cereals, cottage cheese, etc.) it is more difficult to understand what exactly was the cause of any deterioration in the condition of the animal. How to determine this deterioration? Yes, very simple. First, look closely at the animal's fur. It should be smooth and shiny. Elastic to the touch.

It should not be easy to comb out, or even more sleep. Secondly, pay attention to the feces and urine of the animal. The dog should recover easily, without much effort. The feces should be brown-gray, without a strong odor, medium consistency. Not diarrhea and not "pebbles". Urine should have a pale yellow color. And the last. One of the main indicators of a dog’s health is its behavior. If the dog is active, cheerful, has a good appetite, and regular stool and urination are all right. It means that the food that you give to an animal suits it and is well digested.

By the way, the term "digestibility" is defined as the amount of food digested by the body, i.e. not contained in the stool. The amount of energy and nutrients entering the body of an animal depends on the level of digestibility. This level can be measured in several different ways, but two of them are basic ones. The simplest method is that the chair is collected and examined in order to compare it with the food that the animal consumes, in composition and quantity. So you can daily monitor the digestibility of feed.

Laboratory analysis: added special enzymes that act on the feed and simulate natural absorption. This method is used to quantify the digestibility of constituents, mainly of animal origin.

In addition, it is possible to assess the overall digestibility of the feed: the digestibility of dry matter, proteins, fats, etc. High digestibility is necessary to maintain good animal health, as it eliminates nutritional deficiencies caused by poor absorption, and also prevents some digestive diseases.

Three things are important to ensure high digestibility:

  • correct selection of components: refined grains, animal proteins that do not alter the properties during heat treatment;
  • certain nutritional formula: low fiber content, which impair absorption;
  • method of preparation: too long preparation and (or) too high temperature during processing creates a negative effect on digestibility, especially for proteins.

It should be noted that well-digestible foods allow the animal's body to get the most out of their use, and a reduced amount of stool, by the way, is one of many positive consequences. (Read the rest of the article here)
