Description breed Kurzhaar

In Europe, it is one of the most popular hunting breeds. However, a spotty and fit dog can be an excellent companion not only for the hunter.

For the versatility and special "talent" many breeders call the kurtshaar "a jack of all trades."

From the history

The German Kurzhaar was bred in Germany. The basis for the creation of the breed were the old German short-haired cops, whose ancestors were beaten by Spanish cops and dogs of local origin.

Today, the Kurzhaars have become one of the most common cops in the world. And this is not surprising: they are hardy, have good instinct and ability to follow the work. In addition, the kurtshaars have a congenital bird stance and a special “talent” for game feeding. In other words, the best companion for a hunter — professional or amateur — cannot be found.

Taking care of kurtshaars is easy. The dog of this breed requires a separate place in the apartment, it may be a litter in the room, and a pantry, in which you can equip a corner for it.

To walk a kurtshaar you need at least three times a day for 30-45 minutes. But the dog should not wander on your heels - let's load him, let him run off the leash.

Kurzhaar is a very elegant breed of dog. In addition, the German Pointing - great hunters. They are capable of the first call to rush to search for game and to be persistent so that they will not return to the owner without prey.

Kurzhaars have a beautiful clear stand. The dog quickly raises the game on the wing at the command of the hunter. In addition, the Kurzhaar is great for family life. The German Pointer loves children and does not show aggression. In recent years, this breed is also used as a sports and sled.

What is special about the Kurzhaar breed?

First of all, these dogs are universal. Kurzhaars have well-developed musculature. They are mobile and love to run, swim, play. But we should not forget about the direct purpose of these dogs - hunting.

In addition to games, the dog should be trained from puppy age to commands. A dog should know his place in a small “flock” - a family, therefore it is better if he is trained by a master, whom he will consider to be a “leader”.

Nature has awarded the Kurzhaar the perfect body for a hunting dog. Short wool to which the burdock does not cling and dry branches. Paws with fingers, which do not get stuck lumps of snow and dirt. Color, combined with the surrounding landscape so that it becomes an excellent disguise for a four-legged hunter ... Well-developed limbs that allow the dog to not get tired with long movement in the water and in the difficult forest ...

If you constantly practice with a dog and give it decent physical exertion, it will always be taut and fast - both in the forest and for a walk.

Hunting or sofa?

Many argue that kurtzhaars can be wound up not only for hunting, but also for a fairly regular lifestyle. This is a misconception.

All the ancestors of the Kurzhaar are excellent hunters, so the passion to follow the trail is in their blood. If we, the owners, do not encourage it, very soon the breed will lose its uniqueness. Naturally, not many are engaged in hunting. But to start a Kurzhaar just for fun, not worth it.

Maintenance and care

Taking care of kurtshaars is easy. The dog of this breed requires a separate place in the apartment, it may be a litter in the room, and a pantry, in which you can equip a corner for it.

To walk a kurtshaar you need at least three times a day for 30-45 minutes. But the dog should not wander on your heels - let's load him, let him run off the leash. However, overloading the dog is also not worth it - adequately assess its capabilities.

Wash your pet at least twice a month. It is necessary to feed an adult dog twice a day. Puppy up to a year - 2-3 times. Do not give kurtshaaram fatty foods. The diet should contain meat. If you choose dry food, it is enough to give it to the dog once a day. Do not forget about the porridge with meat - it will help maintain the necessary weight of the dog of this breed. Hint: with proper nutrition and physical activity in a healthy kurtshaar, the last three ribs should be visible.

German cops molt three times a year. During such periods, it is better to brush your pet on the paddock. After that you can soak a rubber glove in the bathroom and walk it over the dog's fur.

Breeding problems

Many hunters face this problem due to the fact that dogs do not have a working diploma or exterior assessment, many animals knit by mixing related blood, which is unacceptable, because in the end puppies were born weak and sick. When these individuals matured, they had great difficulty in learning the hunting teams and had a poor understanding of their breed at hunting shows.

Another equally important problem that hinders the breeding of dogs of this breed is that the Kurzhaars often die on the hunt or get lost following the trail of a large beast. Therefore, the owner needs to be very attentive and prudent, devoting a lot of time to pet training.

Kurzhaar in the show ring

In addition to working diploma, Kurzhaar must take part in exterior exhibitions. To do this, he needs to have the correct bite and body structure that meets the standard.

In addition, the dog must run correctly, calmly respond to the inspection of the teeth, stand in a long position. It is impossible for an animal to show aggression towards strangers and strangers dogs. In other words, the general requirements for kurtshaars at exhibitions do not differ from those followed by dogs of other breeds. Since such training is possible only during long training sessions, one should begin classes at puppyhood.
