Pugs are great gourmands and beggars, and therefore the owners are often unable to refuse such a sweet creature an extra piece. And often this leads to obesity and diseases of internal organs.
When pug is fed naturally, protein foods (meat, poultry, sea fish) should take at least two-thirds of the diet. Salt in food should be 10 times less than in human food. Salted only steamed or boiled vegetables.
Feeding the pug with natural products
Meat should be raw (lamb, lean beef, turkey necks and breasts and chicken), and offal, cartilage and sinews, on the contrary, should be well cooked. In the form of a source of carbohydrates is better to cook rice, buckwheat or rolled oats. It should be given and dairy products:
- low-fat cottage cheese,
- yogurt and others.
- Once a week it is worth adding raw yolk or a boiled egg to the food.
You can give quite a bit of vegetable oil by mixing it in porridge or vegetables, both stewed and boiled, and raw. With a natural diet it is necessary to add mineral substances to food: phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium, sodium, zinc, iron and others, as well as special vitamins for dogs. For this, it is better to choose special veterinary drugs.
Pugs are strictly contraindicated sugar, pork, broths, smoked meats and spices, any sausage, pickles, fried food, any flour products, sour cream, mayonnaise, any boiled bones.
When feeding a pug puppy, it is necessary to control how much a pet eats in one meal. If he doesn’t finish eating a portion of the food, it means that you need to reduce the rate, but if you lick the bowl for a long time, then it’s better to increase it a little.
Milk is better to give diluted and eliminate it from the diet after five months of puppy. Raw finely chopped meat should be given from 1.5 months, as well as cottage cheese with a drop of honey, milk porridge (buckwheat, rolled oats, rice). Fresh water should always be available.
Feeding a pug with dry food
When feeding dogs of this breed with dry food, it should be borne in mind that all premium and superpremium food is fairly well balanced in terms of substances, and therefore one must carefully read the composition and strictly follow the manufacturer’s instructions so as not to overfeed the pet.
It is also necessary to take into account the state of health of the dog and prefer a diet designed for pugs, since it takes into account the pedigree features as much as possible. Choosing one feed, you should not mix and alternate it with others. Also, do not soak dry food with boiling water, which destroy many vitamins.
It is possible to soak the granules with warm water, fermented baked milk, kefir or yogurt. When feeding with dry food, you can give the dog treats in the form of fresh fruits and vegetables, but not more than 20% of the daily requirement of dry food.
If one dog food is not very suitable, then the other should be transferred gradually, within 7-10 days, gradually reducing the amount of old food in the morning, and increasing the number of new food in the evening. Also, always the dog should be available fresh water.
If you decide to transfer the dog from natural food to dry, then this decision should be final until the end of the dog's life, and not “on trial”. And it should be done for quite a long time - from 5 to 15 days, carefully watching how the body takes a new diet. If the dog is good to eat, its eyes do not water, and the wool shines, then its food is optimal.
