How to cure warts in dogs?

The appearance of warts in a dog is called papillomatosis, since warts are papillomas. This is a common viral disease, and papillomas are benign tumors.

They can occur on the lips, in the oral cavity, in the soft palate, in the cheek area and in the auricle. In dogs, papillomas can be either single or multiple.

Symptoms of papillomatosis in dogs

At the initial stage of the disease smooth light pink papules form. They later develop into warts in dogs.

If the disease is neglected, developed papillomas can cover the entire oral cavity. The disease has a rather long incubation period of 4 to 8 weeks. However, sometimes papillomas can disappear on their own within 6-12 weeks. But it is not worth waiting.

Treatment of warts in dogs

First of all, when a dog becomes ill with papillomatosis, it is necessary to minimize human contact with it, since the disease can also be transmitted to humans.

  • Treatment depends on the nature of papillomas. For example, if the first of the appeared papillomas passes independently, then the others will disappear. If the papillomas do not disappear - you need to contact the round-the-clock veterinary clinic.
  • May be suggested removal of papilloma surgically. Also warts in dogs are treated with the use of drug therapy and folk remedies. However, the method of treatment should be chosen by the veterinarian after examining the animal.
  • Drug treatment of the dog by injecting a solution of novocaine. She is given intramuscular injection of 1 ml per kg of animal weight, with an interval between injections of 3 days. Sometimes they can give an injection of a 0.5% aqueous solution of novocaine under the base of papilloma for 2-3 times with an interval of two to three days.
  • You can reduce warts in dogs with dry ice. It is applied to the wart 2-3 times a day for a few minutes. It is noticed that in 3-4 days papilloma is coming off.
  • There are numerous methods for removing papillomas by folk remedies, including for dogs. For example, at an early stage papules can be lubricated with fresh dandelion juice.
  • When the warts are already visible, it is recommended to lubricate them with celandine juice at the stage of their formation. When after this the surface of the papilloma turns black, it should be carefully cut off. And so repeat the procedure until the complete destruction of warts in the dog.
  • Also in the initial stages, the papilloma of the dog is smeared with iodine and pulled over with a linen thread. Within 5-7 days, she should disappear on her own. However, such a procedure is difficult to carry out when the warts appear in the oral cavity.
  • Also, papillomas in dogs are rubbed with garlic, or acetic acid is dropped on them before going to bed.
